Established in 1986, this is Australia’s oldest hot air balloon festival and the only one in the world where balloons fly directly over a nation’s capital. In 2027, the event will run for nine days from March 13 to 21. The highlight is watching the balloons inflate on the lawns of Old Parliament House at dawn before they all take flight at sunrise.
Spectating is free, and you’ll see unique character-shaped balloons every year. If you want to be in the air, passenger flights must be booked separately through private operators.
